Locus Of control(part 01)

DefinitionHow you explain your successes and failures.

  • Internals:           See themselves as responsible for both  success and failure. They attribute success and failure internally.Effort  and/or ability are the factors  they  see at work to produce outcomes.

  • Externals:    See the outside external factors as  responsible for their successes and failures.

     Externals

Cultural Origins of External Locus of Control:
Fatalism                          God wanted it that way

Submission to nature     Not challenging nature

Mañana syndrome          Take care of it tomorrow

Oral tradition                   — Pass down customs and traditions

Non- competitive             This is my lot in life

Sociological Origins of External Locus of Control:

            Poverty-Failure Experience,
This robs individuals ofdecision-making  roles, where to live, where and if children can go to college, choosing a different lifestyle.

The culture in the United States necessitates
internal awareness  because  everything  has  a cause effect. In this society to get ahead an individual must be in charge of both the cause and the effect of his/her actions.
